TMJ-TMD
TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDER (TMD)
Millions of Americans suffer from chronic facial and neck pain as well as recurring headaches. In some cases, this pain is due to Temporomandibular Disorder, or TMD.
TMD is an imbalance of the teeth and chewing muscles, which can cause pain or discomfort in the area of your temporomandibular (jaw) joints. It can be caused by a bite that has shifted, trauma, or parafunctional habits (such as clenching or grinding of teeth).
WHAT ARE COMMON SYMPTOMS OF TMD?
- Pain in the jaw area
- Restricted jaw movement
- Pain, ringing, or stuffiness in the ears
- Frequent headaches or neck aches
- Clicking or popping sound when the jaw moves
- A change in the alignment of top and bottom teeth
At Integrative Dental Care, patients with TMD receive a comprehensive evaluation to diagnose their problem and arrive at a healthy solution. We will explore options together to help alleviate your discomfort.
For more complex cases, our doctors may recommend adjunctive support by other medical professionals in our integrative network (i.e., physical therapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, acupuncturists, or medical massage therapists).
